Kwee-Eline
Kwee-Eline is named after Eline, the daughter of Han Fleuren, owner of Nursery Fleuren, and his wife Corine.
What makes Kwee-Eline unique?
- Frost-resistant up to approximately -25 degrees
- Low stress sensitivity when cold
- Similar in vigour and fruit size to Kwee C
- Production equal/higher than Kwee C
- Smoother and greener pears with Conference
- Good compatibility with most pear varieties
- Early start of production
Production and availability
Meanwhile, research and experience with pear varieties – Conference in particular, but also BA Lucas and Abate Fetel – on Kwee-Eline has been carried out and 500,000 fruit trees on Kwee-Eline are already in production worldwide. In doing so, the intention is to replace at least 60 per cent of the acreage of Kwee C and Kwee Adams. Kwee-Eline should become the new rootstock for pear cultivation. To this end, 2.5 to 3 million Kwee-Eline rootstocks will soon be available annually.
Due to Kwee-Eline’s unique characteristics, new markets are also opening up. Whereas existing Kwee rootstocks have so far not been suitable for Eastern European countries, Kwee Eline offers prospects because of its frost resistance and higher production. An interesting fact, as a lot of fruit is grown in Eastern Europe.
