Organic plant material
‘WHAT IS ORGANIC? A product, plot or animal is organic if it is certified according to the regulations in force. Certification is only possible if the product (and the whole chain before it), plot or animal is under control. Skal certifies all organic production in the Netherlands. All other non-certified products, parcels or animals are referred to as conventional in the information sheet…’

Plant nursery de Kemp meets all the requirements set by Skal for the cultivation of organic plant material. Weeding. Absolutely no fertiliser use. Clear separation between organic and conventional plots. Using animal manure. Hoe the fields. Or choosing to plant ground covers. Just a few of the activities that plant nursery de Kemp uses to grow organic plant material.
In 2012, plant nursery De Kemp took its first steps. Very cautiously. It was not only ‘demand’ from the strawberry sector itself that prompted the move; plant nursery De Kemp also wanted to contribute to sustainable cultivation and was already using organic techniques in conventional cultivation. Plant nursery De Kemp sat down with a few experienced organic growers at the time. What requirements must organic plant material meet? What do buyers of organic plant material expect? And what role did plant nursery De Kemp have in the cultivation of organic plant material?
That first meeting was a memorable afternoon. No one could have imagined at the time that the sale of organic plant material would take off so quickly.
In 2020, when you say ‘organic plant material’, you say plant nursery de Kemp. Currently one of the leading companies in this sector. For the coming year, more organic plant material is planned than in previous years.
