Herkolim is a 100% male hybrid and highly suitable for production of white asparagus in a temperate climate. This variety is middle-early and an ideal “yield crop”. Herkolim combines extremely high production with uniform, thick spears. Herkolim is therefore ideal for farms that want to achieve higher results by lowering labour costs.

Characteristics

• The top variety for maximum profit
• Very high production potential
• High uniformity in quality and size
• Suitable for high planting densities
• The best choice for replantation

Cultivation
Herkolim grows well on all well-drained soils. Herkolim is well resistant to stress. Combined with its spear thickness and vigour, this means Herkolim is ideal for replantation. Our own research has shown that Herkolim performs best with a planting density of 5 – 6 plants per linear metre. High planting densities do not usually result in thin spears, but often give even higher uniformity and better quality. The recommended planting depth is 18 – 22 cm. Herkolim is ideal for cultivation under black and white plastic mulch. Good mulch management and the right harvesting frequency ensure production of high quality asparagus.
Product
The very uniform thickness of Herkolim means more than approximately 60% of production is class 20 – 28 mm. Herkolim produces a premium quality product with straight, smooth, white spears with very few hollow or broken spears or pink discolouration. The product rates high on flavour.

The plant
Herkolim has broad, robust and open foliage, which quickly dries in autumn so is less susceptible to mould. These good traits also make Herkolim ideal for organic cultivation methods.
